I really want to paint my X-Trail flat black. Does anyone know anything about this? Its black with no gloss at all. I searched the net and just got cool pics but I need to know if its been done in SA and if its easier to do or more expensive than a normal paint job. I have only seen 1 awesome Land Rover in SA with this paint job.
So check out these links and I really hope someone can point me in the right direction.

Audi seems to have it as an option. I've seen several A4's (sedans and cabriolets) and one A5 in matt black.
Jeep also seem to have it as an option or there is a marketing company that do it to their cars. I've seen a new Wrangler and Cherokee in matt black but both had lots of ads all over them. I can't remember what the Cherokee was advertising but the Wrangler had Grafitti (ad agency) all over it - orange letters on matt black.

The Wrangler was probably not a paint job, then. Graffiti do full-body vinyl covers - that car might as well been canary yellow. ;)

I've used them often to have clients' new cars branded through the years.

Easiest colour in the world to spray. Even if you've never painted anything, you can spray matt black. Hard to clean though. If you find it looks too drab you can add some black chrome wheels or bullbar.

Good choice for an offroad vehicle- easy to repair scratches. My race bike is matt black for the same reason.

So let me understand. You have a vehicle worth a few thousand, now you want to paint it flat black so it looses it trade-in value, looks like a stealth turd, and you look like a retard driving your 4 cylinder Japanese wanabe Gansta Escalade........why, because the redneck Americahns does it with their beater Camahrows and Honduhs???

If you have a Harley and you flat it , I get it.
If you have 30/40/50 something Ford/Chev ratrod, I get it.
If you have a beater Ford Cortina, I don't give a damn, screw it up.
But you don't, so put down your Speed and Sound and step away...

Now, If you do paint it, also put on the biggest chrome spinnah dubs you can fit & black out the windows so there will be no doubt about how Gansta you really are......:( (then post up pictures so I can ridicule you:):) )

:D:D:D

matt black looks damn wicked, but its hard to keep clean cause as soon as some twirp touches it, the greasy hand print stays for a while...

...there is one or other security company here in sandton that has all the cars/bakkies in matt black, otherwise i've seen a few audis and 1 Ferrari in matt black

The way I know it gets done is a full body vinyl wrap that costs roughly R10k to do I think...

Don't know of anyone that does it near Nelspruit though.

You're so opinionated. The only things you need to understand are the questions. i.e. Can it be done properly in this country etc.

Perhaps I should've mentioned that this is a small project of mine and not the vehicle we do the school run with.

Peace dawwwg.

Just rem every time you wash it it becomes more glossy. But why your X-trail?? What colour is it?

The "security company" is "CAP" (community active patrol). It's basically like a really hardcore neighbourhood watch.

blah ... now you want to paint it flat black so it looses it trade-in value, looks like a stealth turd, ... blah blah

Nooit!! If you use the actual paint they use on the Stealth Bombers I reckon it will increase the value and make it invisible to radar/laser speed traps. Oorah!

To answer your question then: to paint flat/suede or satin black is easy. You use normal black and add "flattener" to it till you are happy or it gets white, or you buy it mixed for you as Hot Rod Flatz from speciality suppliers like Big Boss who is the guys for DNA paints...or you use cheap black primer...or you rattle can it.....
the fact that you now know how and where to get it doesn't make it a good idea yet..

My observations then still stands....opinionated or not.

Yea, maybe it is not such a bad plan afterall....and if you add some lekkker red lights in front it can look like the SUV brother of KITT....

its a vinyl wrap that will typically cost R15k to do ... Saw a matte black gtr where the original paint colour is grey, a matte scuderia where the cars paint is red ... It pretty safe on your cars paint. Only issue is how they put the wrap on your car. Seen some cars where they ended up cutting the cars clear coat when installing the wrap

I just got a quote for R10.5k for my Impreza with the vinyl wrap. Couldn't a respray be done for that price?
