Flat tire

Looks like the tread is pretty much worn away on the outside shoulder, so I'd hazard your wheel alignment - probably toe - is completely out of whack.

That tyre is so past its sell by date that it is plain bloody dangerous!

I apologise to the OP if I am now going to offend him, but it makes me so bloody mad to see that people will actually be stupid enough to drive a tyre down to the "canvas" like that, and then be surprised when it fails!

This highlights the utter stupidity of a HUGE percentage of drivers on SA's roads, as well as the fact that if someone is intelligent enough to work on a computer, it does not necessarily make them intelligent enough to see that their tyres are shot to hell!!

Annual roadworthy tests would sort this *** out.
But I guess you also need to ask whether people ever actually service their cars, since ANY mechanic is going to point that out to the driver...

I'm with Fazda on this one

The "tearing" could have been caused by driving whilst flat/partially deflated - typical of the slow punctures worn out tyres exhibit.

There is no tread left on that tyre. Shocking.

Generally, people don't check their tyres often enough or at all. Just keep driving till it fails. :(

That to me looks like a re-tread.

That's not a retread - simply an over worn tyre that shouldn't have been on the car in that state anyway!
I would hate to see what the remaining three tyres on the car look like!

How would you not notice if that was the case. Does that tyre have any tread left on it at all?

I'm not sure I follow you? You can see at least some tread on the 1st photograph, so no, the tire isn't entirely worn down. And how do people not notice? By not giving a **** about the one-and-a-half ton machines meant to keep them safe on the roads, largely.

There is an ugly crime happening in Strand / Gordon’s Bay nowadays, you might have a very good chance in having your wheels switched, usually with the worst worn tires like that by the OP. They used to leave your car on bricks, now they leave it in an even more dangerous state, not to mention the bolts are loose at times.

Look at "tire2.jpg", there's a bit of tread on the should area of the tyre towards the bottom of the picture, but it's quite shallow. The rest of it, specifically the contact area, looks like it could be bald.

guys....i don't know whats a retread tire is.
all i know is that the tire is 1 - 2 years old....(obviously, i got it brand new)

I suspected it was that.
thank you for your answer.

Although that tire is quite worn, it's not a retread and damage like that is normally caused by driving on it while it is flat. Seen many similar tires.

It happens damn quick as well, had to help a mate change a tire on his car after he clipped the side wall on curb getting onto the highway, he only drove a couple hundred meters on it to get to a safe spot to pull over and change it and the inside side wall was completely shredded

God help me.

And you are qualified to drive a vehicle capable of killing many people due to your stupidity.

I honestly give up!
