Hello,

Is there anyone here who is familiar with fleet management tracking sollutions?

I prefer tracking companies that give u a database on your client pc with software that utilises data on YOUR PC.

Modern tracking companies all focus towards web based tracking/fleet management, but what they neglect to tell customers is that once the customer has left for another company, all their logs are left on the server. Screwing them over so to speak :>

I'm looking into a company called Geotab to replace our current C-Track system as Geotab also provide client software based tracking. I just still need to request a demo of their system.

C-Track is starting to become less interesting to us since our old trusted software isn't compatible with the trivial features such as Email notification and their waypoint / route scalability is a joke.

Hope to hear a bit from other customers from either C-Track or Geotab or any other fleet management operator. Would be nice to have a place to discuss our concerns regarding fleet and vehicle tracking products & operators.

Cheers

What type of vehicles do you have?

Sounds like the first thing all tracking companies ask me, "HOW MANY VEHICLES DO WE HAVE??" $_$

Scanias, Volvos, Freigtliners, Mercedes etc

Bakkies to Superlinks, around 40 give or take

Just wanna establish whether you need proper fleet management + tracking OR just tracking with "so called" fleet management.

The trucks is obviously the give away. That's why you went with ctrack back in the day - probably with one of their higher ranked products. Very expensive as well I suppose (including the running cost)

You should put the bakkies and smaller vehicles on a basic system and the big boys on a comprehensive product.

If some of your vehicles have CANBus you should look into Mix Telematics FM series. Ranks under the best in the world. Scania SA installs it in the factory. As far as client based software - Old school and too many hassles. I understand your point though. Unfortunatly good and bad on both sides.

I agree mix is a good company, with professional worksmen, but I find their web interface to be a joke, so slow compared to C-Track.

Maximum movement u can see per movement report is 3 days.. i mean LOL
Time to generate & string along these movement report takes a long time.

C-Track I could get 90days movement continuously, and everything in less than 10 seconds.
No thanks to web based applications, no thanks.

Don't want my topic to die, here goes a bump ^^

Will check my records, I used a decent system at my last company! Had realtime tracking etc.

The Altech Netstar system (used to be Comtech) isnt bad. Software is installed on local machine. But updates come off their GPRS hubs based in JHB. Got realtime tracking and can be setup with the normal recovery units aswell.

Are you a courier, roadfreight company?

I can give you a software solution which ties into your vehicle tracking provider to show you your vehicle locations along a route according to collectionss/deliveries/linehauls etc.

What a nice software you have. I just wonder now about costs :P
