What would that have to do with being colored?
The flex is a flexible coupler.
It has nothing to do with noise.

In fact the car is noisier without it.

Well it would be noisier if you had no flex and a hole, yes.
But it is just a through pipe that flexes so it will add no additional dampening to the noise.
I work in the industry.

That's what I mean. Ghost seemed to imply that it was some sort of performance part or would make my car louder when I actually need a new one because my car is too loud now
