Hello everyone, I just have a question about Flight mode.

1. Ive heard you are allowed to use the gadget in Flight mode once the plane is above 10,000 feet, past the reach of cell towers. - Is this true?

2. Must the phone be off 100% when taking off (under 10 000 ft)?

Thank you.

yes and yes
although in reality the worst thing that will happen when you leave your phone/gadgets on is that you'll get a scolding from the flight attendants if they catch you...

You have to put your device in flight mode before turning it off. Once the seatbelt sign has been switched off, you may use your device in flight mode until the aircraft commences its decent.

Generally, the answer is yes to both questions, though in actuality it depends on the airline SOPs. I remember 1Time wouldn't allow mobile phones at all, even in flight mode, as the MD-80 aircraft they operated were particularly susceptible to EMI.

As other posters have already mentioned, make sure you activate flight mode before you switch off your mobile phone for departure.
