I've been playing FS since I was a kid. Got my first Flight Sim in 2002.
Hoping to do my PPL in the next few years. Love aviation.

I'm honestly contemplating building a gaming PC just for this. It's coincidentally launches on my birthday, 18 August, so might just treat myself.

Anyone excited for the new FS2020 coming out next month?

MS needs to decide which is more important to develop and release: FS2020 or the new Forza Motorsport.

I'm also on Mac.. which is why I'm contemplating investing in a Windows PC just for this. loll

It should be on xbox as well.

I am also on a mac, and will be upgrading my xbox next year when I'm done studying.

there is no way in hell i will fly a flight sim using a gaming controller
you need a proper joystick at bare minimum

Depends what you fly. For a fighter jet you want a joystick.
For a Cessna 152 / 172 like I flew you get a yoke so a gamepad should be ok.

How are the KB/Mouse controls in FS?
Sold my joystick a couple of months before this was announced :/
I actually found KB/Mouse a lot more precise in games like battlefield but I guess that is not apples to apples comparison. Joystick might feel more realistic.

Terrible from my experience. You at least need a joystick.

The idea of flying a plane is that the forces are always balanced, so that you don't even need to use the joystick unless you're manoeuvring. So definitely doable on a keyboard, even doing instrument approaches with big planes if you understand the principles of flight and make small inputs whilst constantly recentering your kb controls.

However, immersion levels will be low and you'll probably get bored once the novelty of the scenery wears off and it starts to get more difficult as you fly faster and heavier aircraft.

A cheap secondhand joystick will make it much more enjoyable.

my opinion on joystick:
must have rumble effect (force feedback)
must have hat switch
must have twist

and the bottom of the range isnt expensive at all

I've got exactly this Joystick. It's a Logitech Extreme 3D Pro... although it's in storage in Korea at the moment... loll. I've also got an old MS Sidewinder here in SA that I'm using at the moment. Not as good, but does the job.

I was signed up for the alpha but didnt get my windows build finished in time to be invited (also on mac)

Had a pretty sweet X-Plane setup a few years back when I was trying to do my PPL, cessna yoke, throttle controls, and pedals. Aviation medical stopped it all lol
