An acquaintance of mine books kalula for her CPT - DUR flight and gets British Airways everytime, is this normal? I'm flying to Durbs in December and BA is a big step up from my usual (Mango)

Perfectly normal, Kulula & BA have some agreement on this. If I am not mistaken, it is called codeshare.

British Airways own Kulula. Same way South African Airways own Mango. Kulula and Mango are their respective economy flights. It would be a score to pay Kulula rates and fly British Airways :)

Yep. I also stand to be corrected, but they are both managed and run by COMAIR

that is correct.

but its pretty hit and hope sorta thing? booking khulua and hoping to get BA..( i did not know that they do this)

i booked BA to CPT from Durban in Jan. got a decent rate.

The number of numerics in the fight number give away if it is a standard BA or Kulula flight. If memory serves the prefix changes but the number for the BA flight stays the same. It's been a while but if memory serves the longer number means BA. This works for DBN JHB as well.

The BA flights are more expensive than a standard Kulula one when booking Kulula.
