Floop Beta Testing Thread

Ok that was thorough. I gotta give it to ya man, you went out of your way on this one heheh :D

1) Ok iv'e heard about this false positive thing for apps created in MMB (What I code in) and i'll definitly look into it! IIRC check if your virus scan is up to date - what AV is it?

2) Series / Games / etc not implemented yet. (Give suggestions on what you want guys)

3) OK, does your main movie folder contain all the movies, or is there subfolders for each movie? it needs to be eg E:\Movies\Gladiator\Gladiator.avi

Please check this, as this is what worries me mostly. The thing is each movie needs their own folder, otherwise where would It store the cover?

4) Will Fix that up tonight, definitly - it isn't supposed to be there if you have 0 movies, lol - also know about the "1 movie" at the bottom when there are 0.

5) OK, Everyone please compare Quality on say Media Player classic, and floop - because this is important IMO.

6) See NR 3, i'm 99% sure it's related.

your name is DEFINITLY added to floop's beta testing unit! LOL.

Thanx again mate!

Now if others can confirm whether the quality is worse I would be glad so I can sort this out early.

How does this differ from something like XMBC?

XMBC is over a 100 MB Download. Floop is a featherweight at only 2.3mb and performs the same function, but with a TOTALLY different experience!

---------============----------

OK guys, HUGE Improvements in this one - No more BUGS! Be sure to check it out if you haven't already - this is a pretty stable release.

Fixed: Now reports correct amount of movies
Fixed: When your Library is emtpy, no covers are displayed
Added: Info on empty Library, plus button that takes you to the Media Manager
Fixed: 2 Errors on cover not found, when cover is not available.
Fixed: Less than 15 Items disables scrolling
Added: About Window
Changed: New Media Buttons

Download Links (Version 0.45 Beta):

Be sure to POST! good or bad comments welcome :)

DANG, I just downloaded the one from Pg1.:o

WTF :eek::confused:

can you "clean" the file?

maybe it's time for me to run another system virus scan....lol, or it might be a false positive like someone said.

i'm on it. what's the best virus scan to use BTW?

Kaspersky is upset with it, that's for sure. It isn't a virus, but it mentions:
"denied.not-a-virus.Risktool.win32.Squnsh.b"

It's ok if you decide not to try it, but i'm sure it might be a false positive, as ive heard of other people complaining about the same problem on MMB Forums.

Due to the nature of the EXE files created by MMB and its use of overlays and packing, some anti-virus programs might consider this as malware as some of the code used for decryption/deflating are used in said programs and therefore this is where the heuristics might trip - Use a decent, up to date anti-virus application. So far I have used Norton, F-PROT and now I'm usign AVIRA security suite, one of the top rated ones, with full heuristics on and have not had any issues. I would usually warn customers ahead of time that all files are checked with up to date anti-virus (and name them) and warn them about possible false alarms. You might run into very big problems if customers happen to already have trojans on their computers and discover it by mistake - they will likely blame it on your CD - this is a tough situation but the biggest FOOLS of the industry for not updating their virus definitions PROPERLY to account for this are anti virus companies, they are the ones to be held accoutnable - Most reputable ones have fixed this - a lot of people I've noticed use old, outdated, **** anti virus progams that will trip on just about anything, you have to inform your customers AHEAD of time.

You can read about it here if you're really THAT interested, lol, but I'll personally go through it to remove this problem! (hopefully)
http://www.mmbforums.com/ipb/index.php?showtopic=13987&hl=virus

It basically boils down to me compiling it with a few unneeded options, and the user should have an up to date Anti-virus, which should correct this false alarm.

I'm running a Deep System Scan with bit Defender now, JUST in case - but so far not finding anything? what AV software do you guys recommend ?

Sackboy i'm reading a bit about fixing this - apparently i need to get new dll's and stuff, and recompile the EXE.

can I send you the file again tomorow, and then you can check if it does the same ?

If floop reports a "false positive" virus, nobody is gonna use it.... please help me sort this out....

true, otherwise I wouldn't have told u
:p
Tomorrow

Sorry, there are currently no free download slots available on this server.

Please try again later, or you can upgrade to FileFactory Premium below for instant access.
I'll try again tomorrow.

Yo Keeper, can't you change the topic name to something like "Floop MyBB beta Testing" as I almost pasted this to as just "another" app and could you update your first post with updates because I would hate to the poor fellow who has to go through 50 pages later on, just to see a changelog and the latest beta up for download.

Unfortunately I can't change the thread title - but it's ok.... It's in the Software Development Section so it's fine...

I will try to keep the 1st post updated as much as I can.

Here's an update of the "virus" reporting thing:
I recompiled the EXE using a different compression scheme, and uploaded it to totalvirus.com and only 4 out of the 36 Virus Programs reported a problem - NONE of the well known ones, just some 4 scanners i've never heard of. I'm sure they are incorrect though, as the Well-Known Anti-Virus say it's clean.

Apparently It might also happen on virus scans which aren't updated with new definitions, which fixes the false positive.

I just hope Sackboy brings good news with the newly compiled exe's.

Another idea

Just downloaded the latest copy and tested - looking good. I had another idea this morning :) On the screen where you can see the movie details, i.e. the rating etc - I think it would be cool if one could press the left and right arrow keys and cycle through the details for the different movies. What do you think?

Oh and btw, I tried XBMC for the first time last night. It looks really cool and all, but is unusably slow on my PC. And on my 64bit XP box at work, it just crashes on startup while Floop runs like a dream :)

DUDE - I wanna cry, Flippen Awesome idea - definitly adding that one tonight!

Also to add:
-In the browser, When you click on the far left or right, it quickly scrolls 1 page for you.
-A Bar that you can drag to quickly go to the end. maybe even page buttons, or A-Z letters....
-Search function (eg. search all movies with Jim Carey in it, or only all Action Sci-Fi Movies, etc...)

Thanks... sorry for only getting back now to you - had some things to do last night :) Anyways, will take a look at the newest release.

Also, noted above, I see each movie file is required to be in its own folder. I didn't catch that outright (my own noobiness I guess :p ) but this may be wise to hint to the user that it is required - yes, unfortunately, someone will try it, like me :o, and complain that its not working.

About the virus scan, I will test the new release quickly for this one, in case Sackboy hasn't provided help as yet. I can confirm that the identified riskware is a false positive, but for future application safety, may want to be addressed now. The riskware was identified by F-Secure, which uses the AVG engine as one of its scanning engines, hence the similar posting by Sackboy.

Feedback to follow shortly...

lol, it is actually noted next to where your directories are added, but i'll try to provide a different way of notifying the user properly.

Download Links (Version 0.45 Beta):
http://www.filefactory.com/file/af494f5/n/Floop_0_45_Beta_zip (2.3mb)
http://www.spidersoftware.za.net/Floop_0_45_Beta.zip (2.3mb)

Use these to test see if the False Positive is fixed:
http://www.filefactory.com/file/af4988a/n/Floop_Test_zip
http://www.filefactory.com/file/af5abca/n/Floop_Test2_zip

(Note: These 2 test Zipfiles only contain the main Floop Executable, and cannot be used on it's own - just for testing with your Anti-Virus)

You are right though, this should be addressed now.

Thanks for the feedback mate ;)

OK, here's the feedback - the detection of riskware still remains. Unfortunately... I do test the app by excluding the offending file from being scanned, in case of functionality issues. By the way, Av definitions are up to completely up to date :)

Alos, using the new version - whenever focus returns to the main window, I get a crap load of error stating that the NoMedia1.bmp and NoMedia2.bmp files are missing. Unfortuately, these appear to be modal, so I first need to click through all of them before focus actually returns to the window.

OOPS - I was using the 0.37 files with the new test executable. will try quick with the newer .45 files...

First off, apologies for the terrible grammar in the above posts.

OK, I still get the alert when trying to run floop.exe - tested using the 0.45_beta exe, the test files exe's, as well as replacing the 0.45_beta exe with the test ones. Hmmm, seems this could be the start of an issue... For interest sake, I have submitted the sample file for analysis and potential exclusion from the riskware list - will wait have to wait and see the feedback on that one.

Otherwise, nice going with the interface. Ans shot for the inclusion in the beta testing list :D (in the About window)!!
