Floop Beta Testing Thread

Ah cool - thanks. I suppose i'll have to send it to all Anti-Virus Websites for exclusion?

The only thing that is left to do is for me to uncompress, and recompress the EXE's before each release, using some UPX EXE Compressor - apparently that should work but I still need to figure it all out..

I wonder why it doesn't pick up on www.totalvirus.com though? Norton, Panda, AVG, NOD32, Kasperski, you name it all said the file is OK ?

Hmmm, a quick scan on virustotal.com shows the following entries:

ClamAV 0.94.1 Trojan.Dropper-16332
eSafe 7.0.17.0 Suspicious File
nProtect 2009.1.8.0 Trojan-Dropper/W32.Agent.481792
TheHacker 6.3.3.0.279 Trojan/Dropper.Agent.vpd

OK, granted, not some of the best AV's out there... but the identified problem doesn't seem to be the floop.exe file itself. According to the detection information from my AV, the problem lies with the MMBMisc.dll file dropped into my C:\Users\wishblade\AppData\Local\Temp\MMBPlayer folder upon floop.exe execution.

YAY!

i'll see if i can get an updated dll, or code without the functions from that dll.

thanks for narrowing it down man, that helps a LOT, cause now I know where the problem lies.

i'll compile an EXE without that .dll tonight, and see if that solves the false alarm :D

kudos to wishblade for finding the location of the false positive !

Ahoy another thing,

When getting the covers, I think pop up the available options and let the user choose which movie it is, along with the option None of the above or something like that, as 20% of the time the stuff it is getting from IMDB is for the wrong movie.

That would be nice as so far, of the 9 movies I've tested, only one has the correct information attached to it.

I've also tested quality on another system with different hardware, software and codecs, and am happy to report that quality seems up to scratch. Apologies for the previously raised issue - I guess there were issues with my setup. I've since changed the settings on my original test system, and quality seems to be on par again with media player, and VLC. So no need to worry - it was an issue with my settings :o

about it downloading wrong covers, here are some tips:

rename your movie folders. Floop uses your movie "folder name" and does it's thing from there.

so, "Matrix-Part1&2_Rev(2005)X Vid_Action" might give you some wrong results, where "The Matrix Revolutions" will definitely find it.

I haven't even STARTED coding the "Clean up my folder's name, before searching" Code yet - that would take any weirdly named folder and re-name it perfectly for you, removing tags like Dates, Brackets, Underscores, DivX, DVD, and so on...

low budget titles that don't exist on IMDB aint gonna work either.

but ya, rename your folders.

but err.....try it, and report back please - mine seem to work, 90% success rate.

for now you will need to delete the covers and info.txt files (they might be set to "hidden") as there is no button in Floop YET that deletes the cover & info, and asks you to type a proper name before downloading the correct cover.

Get this every time I run floop:
About this Potentially Unwanted Program
Name: Generic PUP.z
Location: C:\Users\edg3\AppData\Local\Temp\MMBPlayer\MMBMisc.dll

Also, it only finds 2 of my 8~ video files, and it shows no info for them, and doesnt allow me to play them.

What details do you need for this to be helpful? :P

1) False virus warning - working on it as we speak.....lol

2) Rename your folders correctly - it can't magically get info if it doesn't have a propper title (but in a next update or so, it should, even if the folder's name is weirdly named)

Tell me more about it not wanting to play the video? what happens ?

The moment of truth

OK, as wishblade said the problem seems to be the MMBMisc dll.

Anyone willing please unzip each of these and try running it on it's own - It will probably not work and give 12 errors, but that's not the point - just wanna check if the Anti-virus is happy now.... that is the one and only mission. :p

Test A: Using Recompiled MMBMisc DLL:
http://www.mediafire.com/?jwnjxgjw2g4

Test B: Without the MMBMisc DLL at all:

I hope this works so the rest of the coding can move on already...

Thanx

===========Good news============

Sackboy did some extensive testing for me, and after almost killing his cap for the month from all the uploading and downloading, we finally got to the bottom of this "false-positive virus warning".

I need to do some modifying to the code base but there shouldn't be any more Anti-Virus Problems any more! Yaaaay!

Thank you guys, wishblade, and especially Sackboy for his time and effort in downloading & testing a multitude of files.

Sackboy, everyone who might be using this soon, will have to thank your ass.
I'm creating a popup window which will start every time you launch Floop, with the message "Kiss Sackboy's Feet" and and OK button. hehe ok not really but you get the point...

kudos.

Movie names

The problem with the movie names it seems is that it automatically takes the most popular entry, even if the movie exists on IMDB. For instance, the movie 'Numb' ended up being picked up as 'Numbers' because that is more popular, although a quick search on IMDB returns an exact match for the movie as the very first result under exact matches (try it you'll see what I mean).

That is why I thought download everything automatically, but afterwards if the user is not happy with what it found, give the option of listing the available results and choosing which one is the right one. No AI is ever going to get it 100% right even if the movie name is perfect (what if there's more than one with exactly the same name for instance).

yes ruan, that will be implemented soon - was just struggling to find the root of this false positive thing hehe, will be doing a lot of coding this weekend....

GREAT NEWS!

Ok, let me tell you guys - i'm currently optimizing the Cover & Info downloader.

Now, I'm keeping a note of the benchmarks, but PLEASE NOTE: My Times are gonna be BAD Benchmark times as I can't get my HSDPA to work, only on GPRS at the moment :(
So, keep in mind, If you have faster Internet than GPRS, your times will be much faster!!!

Okay, The Bencmark: Download 5 Movie covers, and 5 IMDB Info's.

Old Code
3:20

Optimized Code:
2:12

The new Code is 33% Faster, nice, but not only that people....here's the BEST Part!

I'm coding the Floop engine to handle 4 of these new Optimized Downloaders in parallel!

No more downloading one after the other, but true Quad Downloading Performance !

I'll add a Setting in the Options Page so you can set how many you want to run in parallel in the future though :o

What you guys think eh?

Got my HSDPA up and running, and the Parallel Downloads are working Great!

here are the new benchmarks:
20 Covers on a Single-Download Thread: 3:15
20 Covers on Dual-Download Threads: 1:19
20 Covers on Tri-Download Threads: ? (Not Coded Yet)
20 Covers on Quad-Download Threads: ? (Not Coded Yet)

Unfortunately I have to Duplicate the DLL's for each Download Thread running so I'm only gonna make a maximum of 4 - should be WAY more than needed anyway.

I mean, 1 minute 19 seconds to download 20 Covers? That's insane! and that's only with 2 threads, imagine 4!

A Stable Beta will be up tomorrow! :)

Floop Beta 0.6 Released !

Fixed: False Virus Warning
Changed: Brand New Downloader Codebase.
Added: Quad-Pumped Cover & IMDB Downloading
Added: New Download Page
Added: Not Connected to the Web Message
Fixed: Size of Gradient Cover Background on Info Page

So I worked a lot on coding an Optimized downloader, so please help me out by testing it - Just tell me if it's too slow, fast enough, or whatever. also state your Internet connection Used (3G, HSDPA, GPRS, ADSL 4MB, iBurst, etc)

all you need to do is take a folder with say 10 movies in it and delete all info.txt and *.jpg files out of it. (Use Search on the folder, and remember to specify "Search hidden files")

please remember all errors/problems you received and post 'em please - I need *YOUR* help to further this project !

Tomorrow i'll be coding all the Video Player Controls !!! whooo hooo!

Here is the 0.6 Beta (Stable Release) Link:

I re-downloaded all my Covers, and it found 89.6% of them, with a Download rate of 2.7 Seconds per movie.
(Now, that's fast - finding the title, downloading the imdb, grabbing the info, downloading a Cover and cropping it for the engine + creating a thumbnail)

Ahh... the sweet smell of victory.

at the moment I only use 1 server for covers, and no title fixing has been coded yet - so in future that percentage should go up to about 98% I reckon.

If it doesn't find a cover simply get it on google images and save it as cover.jpg in the movies folder, and presto!
