TIA (This is America)

Is Off-Grid Really Illegal?
In essence yes. To live off the grid means to not have to hook up to any corporate or municipal utilities. If a municipality makes it illegal to disconnect from any given utility, they are in essence making off grid living illegal.

“It means living independently, mainly living independently of the utility companies. Providing your own power. It does not mean living in the stone age, it’s not about bush craft. It’s about generating your own power, your own water, dealing with your own waste. Probably as part of a community, not living on your own like a hermit. It’s also about being more self-reliant and being less dependent on the system. Perhaps realizing that the system isn’t really protecting us anymore and we have to look after ourselves.” – George Noory

Sounds like there is a loop hole here. They not specifically saying you can't self provide. They are saying you need to be connected. As in the actual wiring and so on. So just keep that connection and switch off the mains. Have a second main DB installed for your own power supply.

Which is all fine and dandy if they're not charging you a service fee just to be connected to the grid (like Eskom, City of JHB, etc.)
Oh ... we see you're not using any power ... well your service charge is now R1000 per month but it includes 100kWh per month for "free".

Very true.

Florida has bigger legal problems that its utilities. It's incredible how America is cool with a bunch of its states having completely insane laws.

Err, super dodgy website of note. Replete with anti-vaxx nonsense, 9/11 truthers, free energy, aliens, lizard people etc.

And the ridiculously sensationalist headline is, predictably, misleading.

And she was using a city service without paying for it, which is why she was cut off. Not because 'living off the grid' was made illegal.

This woman seems to be quite nuts, too. Got charged with animal cruelty, too, because she apparently thought a George Michael song would heal her dog. :wtf:

Then you use the Grid to your benefit...

You don't need to have such a massive bank of batteries, you can use the "grid" to store your power as it were...

Sorry I did see another article but just found this one first.

I think im more interested in the fact they are trying to control where you live and how based on this.
