South Florida police fatally gunned down a black man as he sat in his backyard eating dinner, calling into question the lack of de-escalation tactics of local law enforcement officers amid national scrutiny.

Broward Sheriff’s deputies responded to a domestic violence call Friday evening at the home of Gregory Frazier in Pompano Beach. His sister, Deborah, had called authorities after she claimed Frazier, 56, and his daughter were involved in a fight.

However, the fight had reportedly ended by the time the officers arrived at the home. The two white deputies were directed to the backyard, where they found Frazier eating.

Officers ordered Frazier to get on the ground, to which he responded, “Leave me alone,” according to his nephew Quartaze Woodard. When order to the ground once more, Frazier gave them the same response. Police then opened fire, according to Mr Woodard.

Police handcuffed the wounded Frazier, before attempting to perform CPR. Officers reported that Frazier was dead at the scene.

Not entirely sure I have too much sympathy for this dude...
 
Definitely an over-reach by the officers... if there was no more fight, and no visible evidence of a crime, they should have de-escalated.

But at the same time, when an officer tells you to lie down, you lie down.... you can always sue them for millions later for wrongful arrest.

But if you are aware that the cops are a touch for aggressive than they need to be why go out of your way to piss them off?

Agree that he was an idiot, but being an idiot shouldn't be a death sentence.
 
Why must he lie down. They dont have prove he did anything wrong nor was busy doing anything wrong at the time. He was eating bloody hell. Couldn't they just do the humane thing and talk.

It's probably got something to do with approaching a aggressive suspect (or a suspect expected of being aggressive).

I think some facts are missing. This is just another piece trying to stir up trouble.

If this is indeed what happened, the cops should be locked up for life. Nut the guy probably resisted and acted like an arse in a time when tensions are high.

Let's get all the facts from independent sources before condemning the cops.

Because there are impartial witnesses in a private residence...
And in another thread we see a cop getting fired for not shooting someone.
