Flow battery could run for more than 10 years

Sounds uber cool!

However this wont be used for consumer stuff it is way too big.

For something like a home Solar farm, this MIGHT actually be promising.
 
If you are a regular reader of tech blogs, you will know there are weekly "discoveries" or "breakthroughs" regarding battery technology, but unfortunately none of these seem to make it through to the mass production stage.

If I had my tin foil hat on, I would have said one of the reasons for this could be that the oil and energy companies are running interference.

You can just imagine what 'nuclear event' it would be for the aforementioned if Tesla/Solarcity gets a hold of a reliable new battery technology.

Unfortunately these discoveries are never aimed at mass market stuff. I think we've hit a limit. Just as you can only manufacture electronic components down to a specific size you can only store so much energy in a specific mass. I think the question that needs to be answered is how many watts a gram of matter can store.
