Hi,

Im New here but have been browsing for a while now..

Great forum...

I recently purchased a Fly book v5 Legally from a auction ..

Problem is it has a Bios Password on it ... I cant get any assistance from the FlyBook agents in S.a they say It will cost me about R15k to sort out...

Want to know if there is any one locally I can send it to , to remove for me .. or if any one can assist me in removing it myself.

Thanx

1. You could try removing the cmos battery for a few minutes.
2. You could try flashing the bios/firmware to overwrite the old config. Will need to boot via USB for this.

How do I flash the Bios ?

How do I flash the Bios ?

You need to download the latest version of the firmware/bios off the net which comes in a .ISO (cd format). You then have to create a bootable USB flash key and copy the contents of the ISO to the USB stick and boot off that.

Can try these:

Much Apreciated ... However , how do i flash the actual Bios on the system, as i am unable to get into boot mode when i start the system it goes directly to the password screen.

I also found a teardown page, which looks like the above info no longer applies. Happy hacking! :D

Hi all

I disassembled my V5 with help from hdbueller. Ron, many thanks again!

The procedure in short words (of course on your own risk!) :

1. Remove the battery and power supply.
2. Remove CAREFULLY the black cover mask within the battery compartment (after this step your Flybook warranty has definitely gone....).
3. Remove the keyboard by releasing the 3 plastic clamps towards the screen.
4. Remove the 4 silver screws which formerly have been covered by the mask.
5. Remove all the black screws on the bottom of the notebook.
6. Remove the two small black screws on the backside fixing the screen hinge.
7. Put the device with bottom side on top on a towel. CAREFULLY begin to separate the shells by sticking a thin blade into the groove to lose all the anchor points on the case. Begin at the frontside and move from there to the back. Once all the points on the front and the side faces are lose CAREFULLY open (tilt) the bottom shell. Do not use raw force here since the anchor points at the back are not very robust.
8. Once all the anchor points are lose take off the bottom shell. Now you have the complete view to one side of the mainboard. The hardrive (sticked on the PCA with adhesive tape), the CMOS battery (that I actually wanted to access) and the CPU (soldered, not easy upgrade possible) can now be accessed.

9. Remove the single screw holding the motherboard down. Tilt the motherboard CAREFULLY and remove the small cable going to the small unit under the keyboard. Then you can tilt away the motherboard completely and now yo ucan see the RAM, all the network modems, etc.

That's all folks...

You will just loose all the volatile settings like date / time and hopefull the CMOS password :)

If there is a newer version of the BIOS it's a good idea to load it.

Is there a Good Chance that the Password will still be there ... Iv been doing alot of reading about it they say its best to leave it disconected for about a hour or two to ensure all is lost is..

After removing the battery for a while, short the two pins on the motherboard battery connector with a pair of metallic tweezers or somesuch (no, not on the battery). This will remove residual power on the memory device that would otherwise have you waiting an hour.

On normal PC motherboards this is often easy to find. It might however not be the case on a notebook or even be present for that matter.

Just disconnect it and wait the 2 hours IMO.

Hi All,

I managed to strip the Computer Yesterday... It was pretty easy... however , I tried Every thing left the Battery disconnected for a hour , shorted the connectors on the board , and still once I put it back together the password was on..

I also Noticed on the face screen that it has a program Call Strong Rom Installed on it could this possibly be the problem..

Could there Be another battery on the board that im just not seeing.

Any one have any other suggestions.

Your Help will be appreciated.

The BIOS probably write the password to non-volatile memory , that is to memory that does not require power to retain its memory, and not to normal static RAM, which does require power. It would write to flash memory, within a sector of the BIOS flash to do this. This is generally more secure (from the likes of you, who want to reset it ;) )

The battery is there for the RTC (real time clock) backup function.

Looks like no easy solution, hence the absurd amount they want for doing it in-house.

Not really, other than go search on google and look around in the technical laptop forums to see if someone managed to find a hack for it. Good luck.
