I need to go fetch some stuff in Cape town and was thinking of flying down for the weekend. One of the things I'll need is my PC. Any thoughts on transporting it like that? Or should I just opt for couriers?

This should go in a bag which will fit in the cabin storage. Do you plan to take box, keyboard, mouse and monitor?

I think you might consider a laptop or a tablet (borrow one)

i have a laptop for work, but id like my desktop for home (all my stuff is on there how i like it)

thinking of taking the keyboard/monitor (23" samsung) and mouse with the box yea. Perhaps even my xbox

I carried mine on with me. When I got the plane, I put it to the side where they put the prams (just as you are about to climb up into the plane). They then load it. When you disembark at your destination... its there waiting for you as you leave the plane. You will probably want a PC carry case if you are lugging a monitor around with you.

This.

If you don't have cardboard boxes to put it all in, just make sure that everything is wrapped up nice and tight with bubble-wrap.

Last time I travelled with a complete PC I wrapped everything individually, but taped it all together. No one complained about anything, just asked what it is and if I need a "fragile" sticker.

XBox should be the same drill, but rather try to book that in as carry-on. Shove it in a backpack or something.
