I n 2010 I was with ABSA, my banking fees was +/- R400 per month. I moved over to FNB that year, now on +/- R90 per month.
I also feel they are pushing the limits with the increase to banking fees, but they are still cheaper than my previous option.

I just got screwed.
Apparently, eBucks earnings for cheque account holders are now also capped the same as with credit cards (earnings on maximum of R20k spend). I only got 60% of the eBucks I should have gotten this month.
Bastards.
All they said that FNB makes the rules and that it was communicated to us. I checked my communications and their website and pricing guide... nada
Sad thing is, even with this crap and how much they piss me off, I'll probably still stay with them because no other bank is going to pay me between R400-R900 a month to bank with them.

They charged me R49.50 for a statement. Hating them more and more everyday the useless twats
I read the pricing guide very carefully before I moved to FNB.
So far I haven't experienced any surprise service fees.
I pay R79 per month for the Smart Cheque account and that covers everything I need.
Loyalty programs are usually a waste of time - I never bothered signing up with eBucks.
Normally I would agree with you, but eBucks really was the exception (ok, I suppose it still kinda is, even though they piss me off). eBucks can basically be used anywhere and at the refund rate of 2.5% for purchases / 15% for fuel, you basically make your bank charges back in eBucks with less than 2 tanks of petrol. I bought a PS3 console a couple of months back and next month I'll be buying a home theatre system, all with ebucks.

I'd love for you to elaborate on this - unless your normal mode of transport is a Boeing 747 I can't really believe this. I fill up once a week and swipe a few thousand on my platinum card and I make about 60 ebucks a month.

Yup, because of this I now bank for free with FNB. Infact with the fuel rewards, ebucks etc they are paying me to bank with them.

My car cost about R600 to fill up completely... 15% off that is R90. Banking fees for Platinum account holders is around R120 I think.
Ok, I just remembered they have that points thing. You have to build up some points in order to get onto the highest earn ratio. It took me a couple of months, had to specifically channel everything through my cheque account, open a money market account and then just wait. A bit of an inconvenience, but worth it. I reached the top level in December and since then, I've earned almost R6500 in eBucks.
