FNB changes OTP to SmartOTP in App

so have they deactivated the USSD options one gets?

as app is great, but what if my phone breaks or gets stolen......

haven't thought it through I must admit....
Your phone could still break or get stolen if you were using SMS OTPs. The only thing that changed is that you need a data connection now...

Does anyone know how to make it not vibrate when you get a notification? It doesn't seem to pay any attention to my phone's settings.

That's a good idea, actually it would be awesome to have an option to enable that for all purchases/transactions, literally they can steal your card and pin and still not access your funds.

Yup.. not a difficult integration. Problem comes in that not all retailers do POS online only.. The reason I said ATM is because thats mostly online so the reason it's not done is kinda silly.

For POS & CVV it's a bit trickier with the offline transactions unless the card is online only and then u can't purchase things a lot of the time. What i am curious about is this.. what % of merchants/retailers still work offline? I see a lot of restaurants still do the offline tran.

Not many if any Pos are offline?
Unless you are thinking of old skool credit card paper swiping gadgets that make an impression of the raised digits from the card.

Every pin based card transaction is online, most people have had the pos card machine not connecting/Internet down situation, app verification of every purchase would work there perfectly for pos.

WTF, I just did a transaction on EasyPay using VerifiedByVisa and the OTP never arrived (I checked my app too) and upon closer inspection it's someone else's Personal Message indicating that they probably sent the OTP to someone else!!! :wtf:

edit: OTP's coming through now, 35 minutes delayed!

There's a floor limit set by the merchant as to which transactions go online. In restaurants, it's generally R200 and above that's goes online.

HELP!!!!!!!!

I've been suspecting FNB has been under attack for a while, someone knows they have a weakness and wants to be paid for it?

Are we supposed to only be getting app notifications/otp, I'm still getting both app and SMS?

So how does this work I have not received an OTP from the app yet and I have the newest version. Do i have to enable something somewhere?

Good point that, I've actually only got payment notifications from the app thus far, otp still coming via SMS.

I suspect there's a difference in interactions with fnb.co.za and then with Verified by Visa. The FNB stuff should be using the App now (I've made payments and then get to approve them via the app, no OTP involved), but the Visa stuff might be more complicated. Maybe the backend for that is only able to use SMS and is not under FNB control. It would be nice if FNB can clarify the situation.

If you are rooted, fingerprint support and otp's in app will not work. Once I unrooted, worked fine.

Apologies for necro, but I'm also having this problem - did you ever get it sorted? Getting OTPs via the app, instead of via SMS, was kinda the main reason that I installed it...

Have you validated your device in the online banking web site?

As I understood it,if the device was validated,it should automatically switch within a week or 2
