I'm currently looking at switching from Standardbank to FNB. So I'm looking to get a Cheque account with them and taking the unlimited pricing option where you pay something like R84 and then all your transactions are included.

The problem I'm having is I see they charge R25 every time you draw money at other banks ATMs.

How do you get around that especially when your in the middle of nowhere and need to draw money?

At other ATM's I withdraw from my credit card. Seems cc's have a std price or something. Every now and then I top up my cc from my cheque account.

IIRC, if there is no FNB ATM in the town your trying to get cash in, they give you the withdrawal at their rate.

At least, that's what one of the salespeople said... Other than that, try get a Virgin Money Credit card- withdrawals are a flat R10 at any ATM in the WORLD! It's also completely free...

I reckon FNB is great with their free internet and cellphone banking. SMS notifications are a bonus too. I also get free AA membership with my petrol card. First time I've ever been enthusiastic about a SA bank :o

That's a good idea but I don't have a CC and don't really want one

Yes - FNB is tops, Moved from Standard paying R200/m to now paying R89/month and much better service and extras. (Already have a huge amount of ebucks)

If you're a miser (like me ;)) you'll appreciate this:

FNB costs per month- R19 or something for Petrol Card + R40 or so for the account itself.

I use CC for all purchases- builds a solid credit history and is free to swipe every time. No need for the R85 'unlimited' thing. So, for <R75 I get free AA membership (R675pa, R297pa if you <25yrs), free internet banking- use to setup accounts/beneficiaries and free cellphone banking- use for paying all accounts etc linked to my cheque account- rent, cellphone, Credit Card etc.

Shaweet.

FNB = best bank in SA.

Im with nedbank (they been good to me on my homeloan) but other than that nedbank blows wrt to theri banking services and fees.

incontact with FNB is worth moving to FNB alone.
