Anyone who has had USD current in the global account at FNB and wanted to change the currency to EURO. Would I need to withdraw, close the account and buy new currency in euro or is there a way???

My son is going to to Europe in September

As you said, you would need to get the balance to zero, then only can they switch the currency.

Maybe easier to open a new GA in the required currency, and just use up the other one until it's depleted?

yeah this is going to be sooooo cost inefficient its not even funny

new account and fund that

TBH I would just open a capitec global account and fund that I use that for all my global travels with zero issues

Global accounts sound cool in principal but in practice meh I used it my first trip now all it does its my international lounge key

Jah... And the cards have a universal hard-wired limit of 5000 in whatever currency it is - ask me how I know.

Once when we really needed it, our banker had to get an urgent exco sign-off so that the card division could raise the limit temporarily. If you are wondering why I used the term 'universal' earlier, it's because when they raised that limit on the backend, it was raised on EVERYONE'S card, not just ours.

I find a Channel Islands account to be much more flexible TBH I

What are you putting on a card that's more than $5K in one transaction? I don't think this is a regular use case for the product.

I can't remember what it was, probably flights or something.

But as I said, after that debacle, we opened a Channel Islands account and no limits issues there, their cards have a £1m transaction limit.

Agreed. And if you're in Cape Town, you have no lounge at all in International departures :(
Has anyone tried adding an RMB or PW card to see if they come with lounge access? Visa Signature generally includes lounge access, on Discovery it includes lounges in Cape Town.
