Hi guys,

I've been looking through threads and apologies if this is an older topic. But can't find an updated 2016 comparison.

Trying to decide between a FNB Gold Card and a DiscoveryCard. Seems the fees of the FNB card are minimally less and eBucks vs Discovery Miles are similar. I'd probably score more Discovery Miles and cash back because of Vitality status etc.

Are there any hidden costs/benefits I need to consider?

Discovery Card should show up in my FNB online banking correct? So I can transfer directly across to it?

Thanks all.

I cancelled by discovery gold card. Their rewards wasn't working out for me and their are too many rules.
Also, you pay 375.00pa for miles, but ebucks is free.

If you already have an FNB chq account, you should investigate their bundle option (chq + credit card). It works out cheaper.
Also, you can use the ebucks calculator to determine what rewards level you might achieve.

Go see the example on discovery website on how the rewards work. Absolutely horrible with the rules

I had this option a while back. Some of the things you need to consider:

* Are you only using the credit card with fnb or do you bank in general with fnb? EBucks doesn't really work out if you're only using a credit card with FNB. So on face value, you're only on Ebucks Level 1 with just a credit card.

* I think that if you use a credit card only, then you might pay a seperate fee for ebucks. Only when you combine credit and check does this get waivered.

You need to also evaluate the estimated amount of ebucks you think you're gonna get versus your current discovery miles. (use this link and walk through the process. If your miles cover the yearly cost of the miles then you shouldn't switch.

There's another aspect on what you can use ebucks and miles for, but that's only important if you can make similar ebucks and miles.

So my choice at the end was to go with eBucks. I was on discovery blue or bronze status, so I didn't really benefit from vitality. Took a credit card + cheque card + share investor account with fnb because I needed it at the time. This paid off for me so I make like ~r500 in ebucks by normal activities whereas i would only get r50 with discovery miles.
