I have a home loan with FNB. I am not behind with my payments and I pay in an extra R2000 per month into the loan. However, I am currently experiencing some financial difficulties and I would like to discuss this face to face with someone at FNB with a view to reducing my monthly payments for a period of time. I went to the Hillcrest Branch who informed me there are no home loan consultants at any of their branches and I must phone a number. I phoned the number and was told I have to fill in forms. They could give me no other information. I received reams of forms to be filled in which contained no information about penalties, options etc. I emailed again and said I would like to speak to someone personally but have heard nothing further from them.
It seems they have home loan consultants only for new suckers... erm.... customers but nobody willing to engage with clients who have existing loans.
Does anyone know how I can get an appointment with someone at FNB? I am in Pretoria.

How much extra have you paid?

It might be easier to draw that again and use it to keep up the current payments.

Fair enough, but I want to discuss the options with a human being. The call centre people seem to be unable to answer questions

Unfortunately the normal call centre is manned by illiterate morons (like 99% of call centres in SA). Only the Platinum call centre is of any use usually, and even they aren't great.

Try posting something on their Vleisboek page, it's the only thing companies seem to give a crap about these days.

^ This seems like the least hassle. But it might bite you in the arse if you still cannot afford the place x months from now. Perhaps consider selling now before it goes south.

I'd have to disagree with that. The call centres are largely staffed by graduates (typically BCom and similar). They also have to be able to know an enormous amount to be able to answer queries on so many different things.

Not at ABSA, they are staffed by retards reading of a Q&A sheet. If you want to speak to a graduate ask for a supervisor.

As an FNB customer, I can tell you I speak from experience. I don't care if they have PhD's, they are useless. As are most call centres. I know more about the procedures and products of the bank then they do, after just a few minutes on Google. If I could do everything myself why would I waste time and money on a call centre? That is not how you provide good service.

I recently applied for a future use amount on our homeloan and yes its a freaking mission to speak to a single consultant, let alone see someone in person. Maybe give RBJacobs on twitter a try?

This is why I worked through a bond originator when I took out my bond two years. They handled all the crappy work with FNB.

Must say that since then FNB has been a complete fail, still cannot get the debit the correct bank account.

I don't tweet on principle.
But I'll give it a try, thanks.

Thanks for the tip on Rbjacobs. He (or she?) is fabulous. I am being assisted.

Think it's a group of ppl that is the RB...

I'm not with FNB but I see this account is always very active & prompt.

It is a group of people, amazing how social media avenues are more effective than calling them directly.

All sorted. Perseverance wins. I am not a fighty person but this time I stuck to my guns and got what I wanted. I was sorted telephonically. On principle, I refuse to fill in reams of "debt relief" forms full of humiliating questions like how many sweets I buy per month like I am a child because I am not in arrears and I have prepaid what turns out to be R82k on my loan.
So there! Moenie met Tannie Bokdrol sukkel nie.

I agree the homeloans call center at FNB is very bad.
