FNB prepaid rates

Does anyone know if FNB charges a higher amount for prepaid electricity. I have moved into a new house and have recharged twice now at the beginning of the month for R800. Both times R400 was taken for service fees and only R400 allocated to electricity. I only got 125kwh of electricity for the R400 working out to R3.20 a unit. As this was in the beginning of the month and we'll wiring the first block of 350kwh for residential prepaid tariff for 2024 this is quite a lot more than the published rate of R2.36. I am aware of the new R200 service fees and think they may be backdating these as the house was vacant for a few months and I didn't fill much electricity. Can anyone confirm why the rate is electricity is so much higher with FNB? How can I query the backdated service fees and how much more i could be expected to pay?

This may apply elsewhere, but had happened to me in CPT with a property.. If there's outstanding municipal fees, this would be deducted from prepaid electricity purchases, half to debt other half electricity..

This was an admin error, as the debt was owed by the previous owner, not myself and the transfer never made it to whatever system deducts debt.. had to go to electricity head office to get it sorted, but all debt deducted from my purchases were credited back to my meter once they got it fixed..

I think you misread my post...

The outstanding fees would obviously be for the previous owner and the muni did not remove the debt collection from the prepaid meter..

Unless you mean that you bought a brand new property direct from the developer and you are the very first owner there of..

By the looks of it, the full pta is being converted to prepaid. I got my notification today!

Yup sounds like the previous owner (or the actual owner if renting) didn't pay their fees and now it's being taken via Prepaid.

Sounds like they didn't transfer the prepaid into their name
