Quick q...

I'm looking at either opening a FNB Share Investor or Standard Bank OST account. Costs are more or less the same.

Question is, does FNB's share investor provide all the functionality that Standard bank does? Like placing orders to buy at specific price etc?

Yes. I used OST when I was still with Standard Bank, and moved to Share Investor (and later just Share Saver) when I moved to FNB.

Who do you bank with? Would make sense, I suppose, to stick with your general banker if the costs are similar.

I bank with FNB, but the info available on the Share Investor is almost non-existent where with Standard bank they have so much tutorials and info so you know exactly what you are getting.

Yes FNB's share investor allows you to specify the price at which you buy.

Not familiar with the FNB offering, but check whether they have all the information, analysis and free seminars that Standard Bank offers. Although, to be fair, for a novice you won't necessarily use them, but it's nice to have the option to look there and to learn along the way. As far as I know Std bank offer you a free one month trial, so maybe try both of them using that option, and then decide which one you like.
