Hi All. Has anyone here done this before? I've tried it and it's a schlep. Doing it online you need to apply for a forex payment and during the application process you need to give a reason for the transfer. You can't use a 'Gift' as a reason because you transferring funds to a company. Spoke to a FNB forex consultant and he suggested I use 'Investment' as a reason. Using this I need a tax clearance certificate from SARS. All this just to transfer my own money. Anyone know of an easier way to do this?

Yeah dude, Im in EXACTLY the same boat.

They gave me such a schlep about it too so instead Im just withdrawing cash from ATMs this side and depositing it into my norwegian bank acc. No SARS nonsense. Ive got quite a bit of investments and savings lying in SA still but since Im drawing a salary this side Im not too worried. Using FNB cc for all payments and my salary just for rent and internet debit.

I feel for you because its the dumbest thing...especially since FNB tells me I can just collect a SARS clearance form from my nearest branch. Yeah...nearest branch is 10,000km away.

EDIT: Just withdrew 2000NOK (R3.3k) and they charged me 4% on the transaction...nothing about sell/buy exchange rates, just used the current rate of 1.65 + 4%.
