At the moment ive got an FNB Gold Cheque Account and FNB Gold Credit Card. I stayed with them until now to pay off my student loan (in the contract fine print it said that they can bump up the interest if I do not bank with them to the max allowable amount). I also have a Capitec Account for short term savings (i.e. Emergency Fund).

I Generally dont spend a lot of money in the month so the whole eBucks thing hasnt really been worth while. Im thinking that I could be saving more in Banking Costs + Capitec Interest vs the FNB eBucks.

1. Would like to hear from some peeps here what there experience has been like with the Virgin Credit Card? Im considering dropping FNB and just going Capitec + Virgin CC.

2. If I change over to Capitec as my main bank would I have to go into SARS or could I just update via e-filing?

The virgin card is great. I don't use mine anymore because at the moment I pay FNB R50 a month for my plat credit and cheque card and get more back in ebucks.

That said before I had the FNB card I used my virgin money card without any issues.

Virgin CC interest rate is 14.25%. I applied for an FNB CC and they refused to give me anything less than 16.65%.

Virgin CCs have no "activation" fees. FNB does, but I think you get the cash back if you spend more than R500 in the first month.

Virgin CCs have no monthly fees - at all. FNB gold CC works out to around the R40 a month mark (I don't remember the exact figure).

When signing up for the FNB card, it appeared that they were insisting on a debit order date - while I'm free to do what I want, when I want with the virgin card.

Unless you plan on using it to help with your eBucks reward level, I think it's a waste of time.

Virgin's customer service is beyond useless. I guess you get what you pay for, but be aware.

We've had one of these cards for 5 years now... in that 5 years we've had to use customer services only once to reset the internet banking password/unblock mastercard 3d secure. Was not an easy process (partially due to security I guess), but we dare not complain for the R0.00 we are paying a month in fees. Runs via ABSA in any case.

My Virgin card has been great I got it about a year after they came to south africa and have used it all over the world.
Every few years they phone me up to ask where I want my new card delivered and thats that.

Do they charge you for the delivery of the new card?
