Hi All

Just wanted to get your thoughts on this.\

I am going away for a week and the BnB that I am staying at does not have the best food. I would like to buy my food and take it with me but I am worried that it will go bad. Basically my meal of choices is chicken strips from a fast food restaurant.

My current options are:
1) Buy the food on Sunday evening, put it in the freezer over night and transport it in a cooler bag for 3 hours with a few ice bricks, then put it in the freezer in the bnb and then reheat it when I am ready to eat.
2) Buy the food on Monday morning, let it cool in the car for the 3 hour drive and put it in freezer as soon as I get to BnB.

The place I am staying at has no restaurants and is quite remote(think Drakensberg)

Any thoughts on which method would allow me to eat the meals as late as Friday for lunch?

Thanks

I'd put up with the food or take dried foods, snackbars, muesli etc.
Sounds like a mission taking and storing your own food like that.

If you're going to use the freezer at the bnb either way will be fine. I wouldn't bother freezing it beforehand - keep it cold in the cooler bag and freeze when you get there. Just braai for every meal.

Buy frozen for the days toward the end of the week, fresh for the first two or so. Put them all in a cooler box, and the frozen food will keep the non-frozen food cool enough for a three hour drive.

Go to a better bed and breakfast?

Nothing can be so bad that I would need to take my own.

Also if you know what the food is like...then you've been there before? So why on earth would you go back?

Most times I'd prefer to take my own. Braaing is awesome. 2x braai/day = bliss.

This is literally the only BnB within an hour of where i plan to work.

The food is edible but I dont eat Bacon/Beef due to religious reasons and therefore normally end up eating sides which is very bland.
