Maybe we shoud start a food question thread?

Question:

I want to bake rusks. I was told by the dietician that I should replace butter with canola oil.
How do I do this? Do I replace equal amounts?
Will the rusk still bind as it is suppose to?

No idea about your question, but yes, it would be nice if the mods can combine the 3 foodie question posts we have on here thus far.

BTW, I buy my rusks from a deli and in particular, the type for diabetics, even though I am not a sufferer. They contain all kinds of healthy ingredients and minimum sugar.

Thanx Blu. I have a great recipe but it uses butter and using flora lite is very expensive and it does not bind the rusk together.

I have no idea whether it'll still bind it. and I don't have an alternative for you. maybe bake something else rather? like bran muffins? my recipe uses oil and not margerine

Bran muffins are awesome and very healthy.

@ Mila: Why not make a small batch with the oil replacing the marg. and see if it holds up.

*by small I mean bake 10 rusks :p:D

Sheesh Mila if you're going to bang marg in there in you may as well stay with the butter. Haven't you seen all the "expert opinion" floating around condemning marg as as one molecule removed from plastic ? ;)

What kind of rusks do you want to make Mila? Buttermilk or with yeast? I have been baking both kinds for many years already.

I make a buttermilk batter with Nutty wheat, muesli, sunflower seeds, coconut and i add omega 3 seed mix ( flaxseeds and pumpkinseeds)
I have reduced the sugar but the so now i want to tackle the butter i use. :D

Any body have the name of the seed company that sells the stuff ...... something like pouyukas..... I need to take a picture next time :(

Rusks with Canola oil tastes ***

Just bake it the normal way and remember. MODERATION

If you really that health conscious, use Flora butter, at least you know that their Techron Oil system with the little people cleaning your valves as you... no wait... your cholesterol will magically disappear... wait... huh?
