Guys,

Got a refurbished 9900 back from Vcom today, after my previous one decided to visit the spirit world.

To save battery life, I use to be able to force the phone to 2g only.

Now that option is not available, I only get "3g only" and "2g&3g" which both make the battery run down at twice the speed.

Any ideas how to get the "force 2g" option back?

Ta

This change occured after the latest firmware update for the BB9900.

The old firmware [7.0] supported force to 2G Only.

The newer firmware [7.1] took away this feature.

The only option you have to to rollback to the older 7.0 firmware to get this feature back.

You should be able to do this with the BlackBerry Desktop Software. When you click on Update Phone it should pop up with a list of available firmware, and you'll have to choose an older firmware.

Otherwise you can also download 7.0 from the Vodacom website : http://help.vodacom.co.za/portal/en...ownloads&type=Blackberry&softdown=&model=9900

I did the same with my 9790. Dl'd the 7.1 and had same problem of battery power getting drained so downgraded back to 7.0.
Problem is that when I select 2G&3G, I mostly get edge connection so have to then switch to 3G to be able to download.
I use 2G to save battery but still have to charge everyday at around 4pm again, leave home with a full battery at 7:30pm.

I'm not sure why BlackBerry removed this feature.

In 7.0 you had the option of 2G Only / 3G Only / 2G & 3G.
