That's when they swap out the tired Gerbils, for fresh ones.
 
Hi kerbyross - thanks for the input [which is more than I've gotten from "iblerts" as you call them :-) ] I'll check out igetter; currently I'm using FDM.

I now time dls so there is nothing going between 6-7am... despite RG's attempts to lay the blame elsewhere, there is clearly some issue on iburst's network. (not saying it's his fault, but he could at least admit there is a problem here).

Not seeing this problem in my area knocks on wood, so can't be core network related, maybe something specific in your area?
 
HI Chicken Boo - thanks for the link - I did in fact comment there that I was having a similar issue to you. And as you say in that post - Iburst loses because of the wasted bandwidth - but so do we users because if its a large file that can be almost an entire night's worth of downloading wasted :-(
I've been using Free Download Manager as my download manager.
I tried igetter as kerbyross suggested but when I checked in the middle of the night it wasn't doing anything - not sure what went wrong - so I went back to FDM.
RVQ says it not happening for him so MAYBE it is a regional thing - FWIW I'm in Randburg...
 
@Chicken Boo - will you be interested in installing a dynamic DNS application on your PC so that I can keep track of your uptime from my side with Smokeping?

SOmething like this :

It does not comsume a lot of bandwidth.

ginggs - I'm not entirely sure how to answer that. I'd be inclined to say "neither"?
In my case I don't have to reconnect or anything - it all comes back on its own after the pause. No indication of a TCP getting closed that I know of either.
Incidentally, as I have said this is on 2 different computers: one computer is connecting using ethernet port off my desktop modem; the other is connected separately using a USB modem. The Iburst dashboard on the USB setup still shows full signal (and connected) but speed goes to zero.

hmm if you can assure me this app is 100% non-malware and not up to mischief then ok. To be honest I'm not using iburst a lot these days, so it might be a while before you've got any useful data.

ginggs - I'm pretty sure on at least one occasion I was browsing sites at the time and noticed no interruption (when a dl stopped), so it appears to affect downloads only.

You can download the official app at http://dyn.com/support/clients/

You'll need to create an user account (it is free) and a hostname, then install the updater on your system, and feed it the dyndns username/password/hostname

I've been using this on more than 4 computers, none of which got hit by malware etc.
 
I experienced the same problem yesterday. I bought the 24 hour uncapped booster and twice in that day the DNS changed. The second time it changed was after midnight which immediately stopped any downloads I was doing. I felt cheated for paying for a service that I couldn't make full use of. I think this DNS reset is a bit of scam because restarting the iburst modem doesn't help, one has to physically restart their pc. Hopefully this dynamic DNS app solves this...

I was going to test out this app: http://dyn.com/support/clients/. I might have misunderstood its exact purpose. Its just used to monitor DNS changes.

I am actually facing the same problem as you:

I am not really using the dashboard though but the wifi router setup and iburst modem.

Looks like I'm experiencing the same problem as you guys :(. So this could very easily be core network, my money is on those damn transparent proxies! And just checked they still screwing with FileServe

A dynamic DNS client updates the record for your domain, e.g. eyenstyn.dyndns.org, every time your IP address changes. This allows someone like The_Librarian to find your router by using the name eyenstyn.dyndns.org instead of its IP address. A dynamic DNS client will not have any effect on your connection.
