What PSU are you using. Is the system only hanging when playing games?
If it is an older PSU it could be supplying fluctuating levels of power and when you start drawing more power something stops working and the system 'freezes'. You can usually also tell what is causing the freeze by the way it freezes. In my experience if it freezes and the sound 'buzzes' it is worth looking at your graphics card. Freezes and immediately reboots, processor. If you lost the SSD though I would seriously have a look at the power supply though. Consider running a system monitor that can log the voltages on your processor and GFX card (Rivatuner is a good option). Get it to freeze again and have a look at the logs. It it spikes or drops noticeably you have your culprit.
