Forcing HDMI output on Windows

I must say the Raspberry Pi forums seem a lot more informed - the answer to this was immediately forthcoming. I guess the Windows guys have lost that "what's going on under the hood" curiosity we had in the early days of DOS

Are you saying that Raspberry Pi guys gave you different or better advice than mine? Quicker yes, I had been away...
And why are you saying I am a Windows guy?

Don't worry, I was not commenting on you at all. In fact, your response was about the cable and not about my windows query. The cable is OS agnostic.

I'm making a general observation. On the raspberry forums people understand the line-by-line operations of Linux and so forcing hdmi output is a challenge within their knowledge area (comment out one line of code). but on the windows forums its harder to get feedback from people who have that "what's going on under the hood".

Looking wider, such people do exist for windows. In fact, some gaming enthusiast has even written an app to do what I am requesting. However I don't want to run the app, I want to understand what I am doing on my windows system.
