Im not sure if any other Ford owners have this problem, but say every 2 to 3 months, my Sync Bluetooth and USB port fails totally and I cannot use Bluetooth or the USB. I have tried everything I can (as suggested on the internet) these being:
  • Disconnecting the battery overnight, removing the sync fuse, sequenced attempts (door open, fuse out, start car, close door, replace fuse, etc). Master reset..

What I have discovered however, is the whilst the car is running, SYNC doesn't work. If the car is off, SYNC works. Removing the airbag, power windows fuse, allows you to use SYNC as normal, but then no airbag or power windows. Dealership keeps saying its a software upgrade, but each time they have "fixed" it, the software version remains the same at V5.1. So I know they talking crap.

Anyone else have this and any solutions? I cant listen to Radio.

Thanks

Had almost the exact same issue, sync wouldn't work at all and Ford could not help me.

Few months later I upgraded my cellphone and to my surprise it worked again... Turned out my cellphone was the problem. With the latest Android update I've installed it's working even better and much quicker than before. Have a Huawei P20 currently with most recent OTA July update.

Have you tried a different phone? I guess so with all the troubleshooting you've done so far.

Hmmm I think your sync version is very outdated. I bought my Fiesta in 2016 and the version of sync was 5.8. You can upgrade sync yourself though. Search on Google and you will find many articles regarsing this. I've done that a few months ago and upgraded mine to v5.9 so I know it can be done. Also search on this forum for "online sync portal" there's a whole forum with this topic.

Hi. I think the forum Curious_Al is referring to is this: https://mybroadband.co.za/vb/showth...rtal-Sync-Update?highlight=online+sync+portal

Its my post that I started earlier this year.
What vehicle make/model/sync version do you have?

The above forum mentions websites you can download firmware from. Few of us have tried and some of the guys there had trouble loading the firmware. I also noticed that when i checked for an update on those websites, it says there is an update for my vehicle with sync version 5.8. This is not true as i my vehicle already has sync version 5.11. I didn't bother then as I think SA most certainly has a different version from most other countries.

it would help to know what sync model you have. Mine is sync version 1.1 on a Fiesta.

I'm having the same issue.

Yesterday it started and the plan was to remove the sync fuse (which is what I normally do) when I got home, but I forgot. Thought it would've sorted itself out overnight, but nada. I'll have to remove the fuse later, which is a bit of a schlep.

I can however listen to radio and the sync voice commands works fine, but not having my phone connected via BT makes it less useful.

I'll see if can update mine by following link above.

So got the download file from one of the sites, followed instructions, insert USB, - Update file not found. Have tried reformatting etc. Anyways, pulled all the fuses out again, re-inserted all back on, so will test again later when I go out for lunch. But I don't have much hope. I can always take it to the dealer, but its a 4 day booking wait, plus the whole day without a car. Fixing the symptom is not making me happy though.

Double check the file structure and the naming convention. When I downloaded the files, the structure was fine but had to tweak some file names and also had to update the content of one of the file to match the newly updated file names. Just search on Google, there's quite a few articles about this issue and how to solve it.

Slightly off-topic, but does anyone know how to stop the Bluetooth from falling back to an older version for calls? Sound quality is horrendous, so forced to use speaker option instead. Ford Figo 2016.
Music is "high quality" (Bluetooth v4) though.
