Hello All,

When I accelerate. The car makes a loud grinding sound from the engine bay on the passenger's side.

If I take my foot of accelerating it's fine. Can it be the gear teeth or bearings?

We changed the concentric slave. Nothing changed. Sound is getting louder now.

Probably a wheel bearing. Figo is notorious for that. Similar Ford models as well, likely.
Good news is that you can replace Front Left without having to replace Front Right, unlike many other suspension (counter)parts.
Bad news is that the hub may also be damaged by now. Hopefully not!
Other potential bad news is that some fitment centres will fit the replacement bearing the wrong way around, which will result in the ABS warning lamp on the dashboard console being (and remaining) lit up, rendering the ABS functionality disabled, thus increasing your risks on the road.
Once a bearing has been fitted the wrong way around, it cannot simply be turned over and refitted - it has to be replaced anew!
Should you wish to lodge a claim against the installer, you can verify the aforementioned points with a simple Google search and present them with proof from official sources.

Thank you for the reply.

I took it to ACD Brackenfell. They told me it's the gearbox. Something about the bearings and gear teeth need to be changed and im looking around R9000.

They said its not that loud like some cars they had and I can still drive around.

The weirdest thing is when I start the car it makes a loud whining sound in Neutral, but when I push the pedal in it goes away. The concentric slave cylinder was changed, but I think there is bigger issues with this gearbox.

I just bought the car privately and all these things are popping up at once lol. But when I test drove it. everything was fine.

Ouch R9000 in these times is a lot. Get a second opinion, Sparklight Gearboxes in Wynberg sorted me out with my Fiesta in 2015. They replaced some bearings in the gearbox, reconditioned, new clutch, total was like R7300. And didn't take too long either, dropped of vehicle today, tomorrow morning they asked me to come pick it up. I know fiestas are riddled with gearbox issues.

It's just bad luck but it will be fine once sorted out, those cars are decent and reliable. Don't you know a local mechanic you can take the car to? I don't trust big workshops, it could be a wise thing to get a second opinion, you could even get a reconditioned or used gearbox at a much lower price.

And, just a thought, you could save 15% on (a portion of) your bill if you make use of a mechanic shop that is not VAT registered.

Thanks everyone. The weirdest thing is there is nothing wrong with the car it drives perfect. It's just that annoying sound when driving. Ill try that place in Wynberg. But I really don't have the cash now. Have to wait for December bonus lol.

I'll take it for another opinion. I have a novel sport version and someone told me it could be a hole in the exhaust near the intake. But I had a opel astra and that sound is very different.

When I got the car I did the service on my own with my brother inlaw as it is fairly simple.

I decided to change the gearbox oil. Upon opening there was a lot of metal shavings and the gearbox oil was pitch black.(it smelt like car oil lol). I drove it for a week and did another gearbox oil change. Once again the oil was a clear color but with lots of metal shavings.

He is a mechanic himself and he told me that I should just drive it until the car stops and he will tow me lol.

But I have a family and I cant get stranded in the wrong place.

When I bought the car the seller was like you scoring a bargain. Now I know where all the money I saved is going too.

If anyone can recommend more places they took there Figo too. It will really be helpful and Ill appreciate it.
