Ford Figo ABS warning light permanently on

Took my 2012 Figo in for new front brakes and all 4 shocks this morning (to the same place I have used for 16 years) and now the ABS warning light stays permanently on. They've checked everything and the connections and cleaned the sensors but it stays on, we also removed and checked the fuses and they are fine.

Was in at stealership for its last service plan service about a month back, I see the DOT4 (brake fluid right?) tank is filled to the top, way past the max, could that be the cause?

Currently disconnected the battery for a bit, will reconnect in 15 min and check...
 
Mine came on when I turned left, but I see you aleady checked it.

I doubt that would be the cause, low yes but overfull i don't see it. You don't have an OBDII scanner do you? removing the battery and reconnecting won't remove the code. it might just have come on during their work on the car, so i'd clear the code and run the car, if something is genuinely wrong it'll just pop the light again.

Take it for a drive and see if the ABS is still functional.

Ikon had similar issues after brake job. Cleared itself after a day of driving hard testing brakes and abs at every corner.

I have to be gentle with the brakes for the next 200km, they said...

I have only once stepped brakes hard enough that the automatic hazards to come on.

Guess I'll drive it for the week and see what happens, it's not like I can take a day off in coming week, bloody roll out.

you need a obdII scanner, it plugs into a port inside the vehicle and scans the computer for saved issues(codes) stored from sensors in the vehicle.
its cheaper to buy a bluetooth scanner than to take it in to any place to get it scanned.

Here's an example

i use the linked one on my 2009 mk7 Fiesta. You're a bit far from me else i would've come by and done the scan for you.

you do have to be gentle on the brakes, but i do agree with boxerulez, you need to know if the abs is functioning or not. but i'd wait till the new pads have warn in a bit.

While you're driving it for the week you should drive like you do not have abs. just in-case something happens and the abs fails then you're in a panic situation.

As said, in the 3 years I've had it I've only once stepped on the brakes hard enough for the hazard lights to flash (I don't know if that's linked to the ABS system in any way). I just had an argument with someone last week about using the 2 second rule and that I am crazy to leave such a big gap with the vehicles in front of me. So unlikely to be in that situation, but will do.

If it doesn't go away I'm taking it back to the place and they can get the codes cleared, and also bleed the brakes (which I wonder if they did), someone said:

I'll bet they never opened the bleed nipple to release the Brak fluid to waste when pushing Pistons back either, that's why the brake fluid is so high

it could well be, i'm a petrol head so i've been in abs plenty of times, and my hazards only go on under abs breaking, i've never had them go on without abs being activated. and since i know the car so well now i break with maximum force before the abs kicks in, so i haven't had hazards go on for some time now.

Open the bleeder screw, and compress the caliper piston back into the piston bore in the caliper housing. Allow any fluid that is displaced to run into the drain pan, and close the bleeder screw when the piston is fully compressed. Doing this will prevent any debris trapped in the caliper bore from being sent through the ABS system's modulator valve assembly.

With an ABS car, you CAN'T force the fluid back; if you do you'll damage the ABS valve body ($1500). Instead, you must open the caliper bleed screw and drain the excess fluid out of the caliper while you press the piston back into the bore. This is very important! If you force the dirty, water-contaminated fluid back through the relatively fragile valve body, you'll ruin it.

yup clearing the code will remove the light. but if something is wrong the sensors will just pick it up again and the light will switch back on. but the pads being genuine won't affect anything. with regards to the abs.

The light will need to be reset (clear the codes). Until that's done, it will stay on even if it works. If the codes come back, then there's a problem (damaged cable, ABS sensor or something else maybe)

Please.. 3 second rule leaves a gap big enough for at least 5 cars, if not 15 if you include the taxis...

THe hand brake light comes on when fluid is low. It is probably a speed sensor on one of the wheels that got damaged.

OK, so a bought the Vgate mini ELM 327 Bluetooth V1.5a OBD2 Auto Scanner, now what app is best?

I tried the Torque v1.5 app that came with it but not much luck with that, can't find an error about the ABS light.

Cheaper scanners can't reset airbags or ABS
