Hi , Can someone please assist , a friend of mine started having problems with finding 3rd gear in her 2010 ford focus 1.6 yesterday. She called ford today only to be told that its wear and tear and she has to pay , surely this is not correct , it should be under warrenty ?? please advise , should she try another dealership , is there anyone on the forum that can help her ? in jhb area

Lol. Why would a girl buy a Ford Focus?

Anyway I'd say just try another dealership.

The Ford Focus has common clutch issues because it uses an hydraulic system which seems prone to issues maybe its not the gearbox. We own one and a friend also... both 1.6 like yours and both had clutch issues.

btw i'm just saying that it appears that the system in the Focus tends to give problems i'm not saying hydraulic systems give problems in general

Reminds me of my 2000 Bantam (technically it was a Mazda) which also had a gearbox failure in the first year. They argued that I abused the car and for R6000 I was offered a re-manufactured gearbox. They said there were plenty of good re-manufactured gearboxes available so I should not worry about it breaking again. I got no answer when I asked why there were "plenty" available.

Needless to say I never had issues with my re-manufactured gearbox and I did not change my driving habits.

Never buying a Ford again.

Well what was the warranty? Did she take a service plan? Could be x amount of km's or x amount of years for service plan.

Ford are sharks though, i hope it isn't ford randburg if it is get it out of there fast. I will never in my life touch ford again. Sharks of note!!!!!!!!

She needs to check her contract, what the warranty covers. Wear and tear isn't covered in the warranty. Sadly ford will try and absolutely rip you off where possible.

Are you sure it's a 2010 model? Ford discontinued the 1.6i engine in the Focus in 2009, replacing it with a 1.8i.
I ask because the model year would obviously have bearing on a warranty claim.
