Hey guys,

I'm in the market for a replacement car at the moment. Budget is +/- R250 000. I have been eye balling the Ford Focus 2013 2.0 TDCi Powershift. I see you can get a low mileage 2nd hand model for about R250k. I have seen a few negative remarks about the automatic transmission, which is a bit disconcerting. Anybody current own one of these and are you happy with it?

Open to other suggestions too. :)

Edit: I see I went a bit dyslexic in the thread title... :/

I test drove one beginning last year and had no issues with the way the gearbox felt. If that is the car you want, go for it. It is good... Other cars I was looking at (at the time) was the Jetta 1.4 TSI DSG and the Citroen C4 THP155 EGS6. Cerato and Elantra were not considered.

Thanks for the feedback. I didn't notice anything when testing it out either. Was just wondering if anyone had one for a longer time period. Also looked at the jetta, the focus seems like a better value prospect to me. As a matter of interest what did you go for in the end?

Wow, that's a nice vehicle but wouldn't really meet my needs. Occasionally might need to chuck a MTB on the back that's about it, otherwise my vehicle will stay firmly planted on the tar. Enjoy it! :)

eagle ford has a special on brand new one for 260k

It depends what colour focus you get ...

K, I have a 2.0 TDCi for the past 7 months, and after 20 000 km, i'm still loving the car.

Pro's
Nice spacious, very good fuel consumption, 6.8l per 100km on average. enough power (after 2000 rpm)
Bluetooth works perfect, sync with phone etc.

Con's
Feels bulky and heavy, big car
Turning circle poor

I am driving one :-), bought it in August this year and I'm still smiling.

Fuel efficient to a hilt. The automatic transmission takes some getting used to because it's actually an intelligent system that adapts to your your driving style.

As for your budget, you could probably pick up a demo for that kind of money. Normal retail price is around R299 000 but I got mine on a special for R269 000.

The Focus is a better prospect in terms of its value offering as it comes with a lot of standard bells and whistles that you would find as optional extras on especially Volkswagens; I have yet to work my way through the manual to set it up to my liking. I drove it from the sales floor and haven't fiddled with it ever since.

I'm on 10 000km and it's only been 4 months now, and loving it yes.

As for it being big and bulky, I actually prefer it that way - used to drive a Mark 6 Fiesta before so the Focus was a huge leap. The turning circle might be poor but the steering is precise, making the car very easy to maneuver.

I have the 2.0 Powershift petrol and I get around 8.5l per 100km in town and on the open road it goes as low as 6.5l per 100km

I am now on 10000 km and can honestly say that traffic with the power shift has made my life a whole lot better.
Only negatives that I can think of is that the car feels very big when driving it around,I had a Mazda 3 before and the focus feels a lot bigger I have the sedan.
My rear seat buckle clip has developed an irritating rattle will get it looked at on the service.
The Bluetooth audio and phone link-up on the car is really awesome and resumes play from my phone when I get back in the car.
By far this is my favourite feature of the car.

So far I am really enjoying the ford and I am not missing my Mazda 3 2.3 one bit.
The guys at Rivona ford Fury was really awesome.I would recommend Phoning them.

The GDi? Did you also go for the Trend Option Pack?

I opted for the TDCi straight off the bat because of the distance I was travelling - 100km a day just for work.

I believe that all Ford dealerships will be offering specials this month; I've already started receiving their promotional flyers.

Thanks for the feedback guys, sounds like the vehicle for me.

I know this is a long shot, but has anyone put a bike carrier on the back and if so which model?
