Foreign national applying for learner's license

Hi there,

I am a foreign national on a temporary residency permit. I intend to apply for a learner's license for my newly purchased motorcycle.

According to the information I have acquired, I need to apply for a Traffic Register Number (TRN) before getting my learner's. There are two complications:
i. I have already received the motorcycle's roadworthy certificate.
ii. If I delay for a duration of time, the roadworthy certificate will expire, and I need to start the process again.

How long is the validity of the Roadworthy certificate?
How long does it usually take to receive the TRN?

My friend, who is a South African national, is willing to get the motorcycle registered on his name since I do not yet have a TRN. But since I will have to apply for a TRN for my learner's anyway, I thought it would be a better idea to register it on my name.

I would really appreciate some advice on how to proceed with my situation. I am fairly new to all this.

I am a foreigner as well, I got the TRN in 3 working days a few years ago.

I've heard anything from 1 day to a month. Make sure you go with all the documentation, certified copies and 2 pictures.
