Any good to get one and which one (country) is best?

HSBC ..UK

HSBC ..UK (opened the account while living there)
Been with them since 2004 and "forgot" to close the account :D

Yes ... however

You'll still need to go through the SARB when transferring in or out of any SA'n account :(
Have you had a look at Standard Bank's off-shore banking products? Just a thought ...

Just dont open one in NZ.

The basteds there tax me based on my money entering that account, then again I am being paid by a NZ employer...

What are you trying to achieve?
This would help in recommendations...

Well as per my OP.

1) should one have a foreign bank account.
2) if so then what is the best options.

What are the costs of xferring from say a NatWest account to a SA account (if a direct xfer can even be done)?
