I have a vw polo that I bought from a Japanese importer. It is registered on my name in Swaziland. My other one is registered on my name in Botswana. Can i register them on SA plates?
Is it illegal to drive them in SA? Can they be impounded?

You can drive them on a Temporary Import Permit(TIP) for 6 months, you'll get this at the border, this can be extended for another 6 months at a SARS office. After that the vehicle needs to leave SA.

You cannot register them on SA number plates.

How does it work? There's a car with Zim plates (XXX 9999) where I live. There's another one with UK plates (XX99XXX in typical font and colour scheme of black on white and yellow). These cars have been around for longer than 2 years.

Well like anything, you need enforcement in order for laws to work. If no one is enforcing the law things will get through.

Likely on expired TIP's, you'll get away with it until you get pulled over at a roadblock.

Or they're driving the car out the country and back in once a year. That's how I kept my Zim registered car legal while at varsity, just went home for xmas.
