Having watched my very first 3D movie, namely the breath taking Avatar, I have been surprised to find just how far 3D has come, and what awaits us in the next few months.

It seems cast in stone that every new ‘epic’ Hollywood release will come in 3D. Not only does this go a long way in enhancing the viewing experience, but it goes a long way in breaking box office records thanks to the ridiculous price of 3D tickets.

There are also a number of 3D monitors on their way to a store near you. There have already been 3D monitors on the market, although these have apparently caused headaches from extended use, and reporters at CES are hoping that the new range from Magnetic 3D will be far superior to what has been available thus far.

Sony have teamed up with RealD – the guys who are spearheading 3D technology at the moment – to provide better glasses and technology for use with regular TV sets. While the previous soccer world cup saw the launch of HD broadcasts across the world, this year may see the launch of 3D broadcasts with DirectTV expected to announce their 3D plans for this year in the next few days.

And then, what would 3D be without 3D photography? Thanks to the Nagoya Institute of Technology, a new arc-lens sporting 158 mini-lenses is already available commercially, and rumours are rife that Sony are putting significant effort into growing marke share in this fledgling segment.
