Hey guys,

I bought a 32GB Transcend flash drive last week. Used it once to copy something, but I accidentally removed the stick before it was finished. Now Windows 7 tells me that the drive has to be formatted. I tried formatting it, but when it reaches 100% it gives me an error.

So I'm wondering, is there software I can use to fix the partitions (if that is the prob), or format it? Any ideas on how to fix it?

Thanks

Did you try deleting the partition in Windows and re-creating it? Then formatting it?

Hi Gary,

in disc management the option "delete volume" is faded out. It says file system is RAW and that the disc is healthy. Still cannot format it. Any other way to delete the partition?

if the file system is raw... then it either has no partition or has a partition that has not been formatted.

But either way.... can you get hold of a linux live CD or a computer with linux installed. You can then use that to delete whatever is on the drive and create a new partition.

Using a Linux live disc did not work. The Transcend utility also did not work. Reason: It is a fake. Did not know it, but yeah. :D Paid R100 for a 2GB pirated flash drive it seems.

So, I went down to binary level and fixed it from there. Had to completely turn all the bits to 0's. Then created a FAT32 partition again. It works okay now, but it's writing speed is very slow. Reading speed is fast- but writing to it... SLOW!

Thanks for the help guys! Really appreciate it.

Not trying to offend you but did you get a genuine Transcend 32Gb or one of those flea market specials? The pirate drives register as 32gig but fail within minutes. Also, you cannot get more than a couple of gigs of data on it. Here's a link on info on how to check if it's fake:

And here's a link to Transcends product phttp://www.transcendusa.com/Products/Catlist.asp?FldNo=3&LangNo=0age:

They on every street corner R100 for 32GB - obviously fake, come on.

Bought mine in front of a PC shop. Thought it was some kind of special... Of course the shop had nothing to do with it.

The 128GB Transcend for R100 sounds like fun. :D

Iv had issues with flash disks that come up as RAW and windows asks to format the drive. What worked for me is in command prompt rut the command chkdsk x: /f ( x: being ur flash disk) worked for me....

Has anyone managed to fix these fakes yet?

I've some folks who would not listen to reason at work and went ahead and bought it from the street vendors!

Those are actually 256-512MB USB1.1 drives using a glitch in windows to register as 32Gig or whatever. You don't fix it, you use it to conduct experiments like:
*Can it withstand the force of being run over by a car?
*How far can you throw it?

Only buy originals from respected dealers at the right price points, here's what they really cost (from PCINT).

Tell them I have some rubber bands with fancy holograms on them to sell. Only R 500 and it will restore their balance and change all the negative energy to positive. For R5000 I will sell them the ones that cure cancer.

lol... you can't fix them. They are hardware limited to 2Gb, but software rigged to make them appear more. But you will never fit more than 2 Gb of Data on them.

Even if you do manage to fix one, it's still made with ****ty components so I wouldn't trust it with my data anyway. And if I can't do that then I may as well use a stiffy disk...
