Need some help with formating my new laptop that came pre-installed with Vista. Problem is when I pop in my WinXP CD, it loads some drivers and before I even get to pressing F8, I get BSOD with an error stating "A problem has been detected and windows has been shut down to prevent damage to your computer." I need to dual boot so I've been told to install XP then Vista. Popping the XP installation CD in Vista doesn't have the "install XP" option highlighted.

Popping in the recovery DVD will reinstall everything back to:
1. First partition
2. Combine all partitions and install
3. Create 2 partitions and install on first partition

Like how will this will help me create 3 partition which I need:
C: WinXP
D: Vista
E: Stuff

I'm totally stumped! BTW, I got a Asus A8Sc for a spanking R8200 in Taiwan :D

You don't have to take Vista off first. You can install xp and then just load the Vista bootloader again with the startup reapir.

I would suggest to do the recovery and then from there load XP
