Hi, I got a 1GB disk.
Struggle to copy files to stick.
My HD is ntfs.
My stick can only be formatted as fat or fat32.
Both files I want to copy is 50mb each.

It says [window] path to deep to copy.

option not available.
I did go to device manager, optimize. then try to format on ntfs again, option now available, windows xp refuse or fail.

Go to control panel and find Administrative Tools, Computer Management, Disk Management.
Scroll down until you find your disk in the list (check Windows Explorer to make sure you have the right Drive letter).
Then Right click on the partition, delete it, create a new partition and then format it with NTFS.

no ways fat32 will restrict you to 50mb... !!! for a 1gb 'stick' fat32 is fine.

fat32 only restricts you to 0.999Gb. So for a 1gb stick its fine....

Hi,

Rather than format, Why don't you try copying the files in question to the root of the my documents folder or on your desktop, or drive c as an example, and then paste it to the root of your stick
or rather copy the files to the root of the stick, perhaps you place it under many subdirectories which causes this error?

If don't work, then I'd go with formatting and trying again as Garry pointed out.

where did u buy the stick? sounds like a dud. find a friend who has linux and ask him to fix for you.

...or try a Linux LiveCD but be carefull, you may get hooked & not want to go back to your proprietary OS ;-)

you try format it from cmd?

start>run>cmd
format (where f is the disk's drive letter in my computer) F: Hit enter.
At least you can watch it formatting and look for errors, don't think most flash drives can be formatted to NTFS.

Also, how many folders are you trying to copy over or is it just single files? If it's plenty folder structures zip it first.

There lies the clue - you are trying to copy a file who's patch is too long - I think the limit is 256 (or is it 512) bytes.

Agree - too many characters in the path name - this would include any folder names and the file name. To be safe, this should not go beyond the 255 character limit.
Whether the stick is formatted as FAT32 or NTFS, this should not make any difference.
What O/S are you running - Win7?

Also try using H2testw v1.4 to check if the drive has any problems, or is fake - it's helped me many times...

Win xp , stick is verbatim 1 Gb.
Test it on another machine today. Copy plenty of files, some just under 1 Gig. No problem. Seems the home computer then, but use other sticks in their [8 and a 256gb] with no problems.

c/downloads/chicken invaders 4

this is a folder.

Are any of the filenames in that folder really long? Are there any other sub-folders in that folder? It is mostly caused by having over 256 characters in the path.

If the folder *c:/downloads/chicken invaders 4/* contains only files and no further sub-folders, and all the file names are not longer than 233 characters, then there is another problem.
If there are further sub-folders, and more sub-folders within those ones, then the filenames (and so on), the the error is probably due to too many characters in the path name, i.e. from the "c" to the last filename extension in the last folder - if there is just one file or folder that exceeds this rule, then it will usually give you this error...

If you're unsure of the number of folder levels you have within this folder, try zTreeWin to see how "deep" the folder levels go.

A few more questions:
- is the memory stick a USB 1.1 or a USB 2.0 device?
- same for your PC USB connectors - are they USB 1.1 or USB 2.0?
- are you using any USB hub connected to your PC USB ports?
