Formatting hard drive

Hi

I wana format my hard-drive and reload my OS. its currently on XP.
How would i do that? Do i jus proceed wit a fresh installation or do i need to wipe XP off 1st?

What OS you installing? XP again?

pop in the disc, restart, and if have boot from disc, then m/s will do the rest and you just follow the prompts - in layman's terms

Guys .... i bought a 1TB HDD - installed it ... now it is taking more than a hours to format at i am 45% complete - using Vista .... is this normal of do I have a dud HDD?

no it is normal. Windows can take ages to format a terabyte drive cos it checks every sector. You should have chosen the quick format option. but now you must let it finish. It can take several hours to format such a big drive in normal mode.
