Good day guys.
So I need to give my machine a format. Too much going on there. Time for a decent clean up.

My internet is relatively slow, so I need to download the latest MacOS before I format it, else I'll sit without a computer for way too long. When I did it last time it took well over 7hours.
Would rather let it download 7 hours in the background while I'm still being able to use the machine than 7 hours being useless.

Is it possible?

Thanks!

Don't see why not. You can download it in the background from the App Store or download it directly and run it as and when you like... Its a 4.7Gb file IIRC.

EDIT: Option three is to stop by a iStore, if it's convenient, and have 'em drop the installer on a USB for you.

That is what the Internet Recovery does. Downloads the version of OS X that your Mac came with.

To the best of my knowledge, the only reason the USB might not work is that it wasn't formatted for HFS+ (journaled).

No luck unfortunately.. checked on my brothers computer (linux) and can confirm that it is HFS+.

So be it.. downloading Mavericks now via Recovery.

Thanks for the recommendations though. Much appreciated.

:)

HFS+? You sure, and is that the same as Mac OS Journaled? I've done this plenty but always from a Mac OS Journaled drive.

Hi

Well, first you need to download it and thereafter create a bootable USB. If you can visit an iStore with a USB, you can ask them to make a bootable USB for you. In that way you can skip downloading.

If you don't come right, PM me.
