Formatting Samsung HDD

Hi Guys

I bought a 500GB Samsung harddrive (to be used as 2nd HDD in PC)......how do I format this harddrive without installing XP on it?
However I still have this problem: My MotherBoard sees the HDD but it is not showing in My Computer:confused:

What OS you currently running? I cant remember what XP is like, lets hope its similar to Vista/7. You need to find computer management, then find disk management. Its here that you will format the drive. If you struggle just search for 'format' in the Windows help. It will provide you with links to where you need to go.

Yes archer is correct.

Right click on my computer, select manage. Then go to disk management you will see the new HDD there you will have to initialize and then format
 
It won't show under My Computer until its been formatted. Follow bex and Archers directions for formatting.
