Former Umjindi mayor Richard Lukhele joins DA

The DA today welcomed the former executive mayor of Umjindi, Mr Richard Lukhele and a number of local ANC members to our party’s ranks.
Mr Lukhele’s decision to join the DA comes after more than two years of introspection and a critical evaluation of the ANC, and what it has become under the leadership of president Jacob Zuma and Mpumalanga premier David Mabuza. His conclusion that ANC members and public office bearers serve at the pleasure of the ruling clique at the expense of those who voted them into power, is a damning indictment of what the ANC has become.
Mr Lukhele brings 19 years’ experience in public service to the DA, and has firmly committed himself to the DA’s vision to bring about an Open, Opportunity Society for All, in a truly non-racial and a non-discriminatory society.
As it is in the rest of South Africa, governance and politics have reached a tipping point in Mpumalanga, and the DA believes that Mr Lukhele’s brave decision to join our ranks will encourage others, who share his disillusionment with the ANC, to change their political home.
So while the exodus from the ANC continues, the DA’s support increases to grow as people who believe in the Constitution and rule of law join us – giving us the opportunity to win and election, and to create a better future for all South Africans.
The DA will continue to work tirelessly to create a South Africa that prospers, one where every person has the same opportunity to flourish, and we invite every person who shares in that vision to join us as we build a brighter future.
