Forstall out

This could potentially be a very good thing. The word on the street has been that Jony Ive has been against skeuomorphism from the get go with Fortsall pushing for it. No with Ive taking over design on both hardware and software, perhaps we will see a shift away from tacky skeuomorphism.

Happy days, IOS and OSX need a kick in the pants.

Totally agree. iOS has fallen so far behind on design now it's unbearable to watch, from a company that always prided itself on design. It's still using this horribly outdated Helvetica Neue font which has zero personality, versus Segoe WP and Roboto JB which are both beautiful examples of screen typography. And all this faux-leather business everywhere; and the game centre, my goodness it's like a pinochle parlour in there. iOS should be all about bold graphical flourishes (like the folder animation) and textures (like the notification and folders background).

Should be great. Nothing like chamfered edges on icons. Hopefully we will see a nice change in the UI in iOS 7. I would imagine Ive will focus on something bold and simple. And instead of the resource heavy skeuomorphism we are going to see much cleaner, distinctive interfaces with great animations and transitions. It is where iOS trails Android most visibly.
