Forticlient VPN @Home issues, internet dropping completely

Good day

I am a novice when it comes to VPN's. For work I use Cisco VPN to access our portals from home. And then I have NORDVPN which I use sometimes for streaming and downloads. They both work 100% of the time when I use them on my desktop PC at home, connected VIA LAN cable to my router. I have a fibre 50/50 connection.

My GF's company uses Forticlient and when she tries to enable her VPN at home (emergency work etc) our whole flat's internet goes down until she disables her VPN again. Even her laptop which is enabling the VPN loses internet connectivity.

Her company;s IT team have looked at the VPN client and her laptop and they blame our ISP. Which is weird because my VPNs have always worked 100%.

Any ideas?
 
I use FortiClient VPN with Vodacom Fibre and have never had that?
 
Forticlient is usually buggy as hell, depending on OS etc, but that's not causing the issues as you say it works somewhere else. Do you perhaps have another router you can try at your place? Or upgrade your router's firmware? Wonder if your ISP is willing to help identify why the network drops when she connects... can you (not her) still ping your router IP when she connects the vpn?

No, even my desktop disconnects from the internet. Phones as well. Whole network crashes when she enables it.

I will try updating firmware etc. Very strange
 
Oh forgot to ask, the FortiClient, setup for SSL VPN or IPSEC VPN?


Some home routers have issues when dialing through the IPSEC one, "VPN passthrough" setting on the router usually sorts that our though

I had issues when connecting my work laptop(Wifi) with Fortiguard, i would lose ping for 4 timeouts and have 5 successful on and off like that.
This all changed when i used SSL instead of IPSEC.
 
Thanks guys, will run all the above mentioned tests and changes and report back tomorrow if it works.
