I got an e-mail about some chocolate club thingy selling fortified chocolates, containing Vodka, Rum, Port, Brandy, Pinotage and Amarula Cream.

This is old news as these chocs with liquor fillings have been around for long.

My question: is it possible for the chocolate makers to do a choccie with a wine filling? I have never seen it, unless I have been blind. I know you get ones with champagne fillings, so why not?

Oooh, a chocolate club? Like a wine-of-the-month club? That could be interesting....

Yip, they're called the Chocolate Club (no points for originality, I am afraid) and you can find them here: http://www.thechocolateclub.co.za/?Reference_ID=6313404

CAUTION: The picture on their home page is to DIE for .... :)

Each month you receive a menu with information about each chocolate flavour with details about the ingredients used, e.g. pistachio nuts ... etc.

Well if you are that enthusiastic about chocolate then I suppose it goes with anything ... for you.

What I think is nice about that club, is that they have their own chocolatiers trying new recipes and allowing members to share in the new creations.

I can imagine if you regularly go to dinner parties and if you are guite wealthy that you could become a member to get access to some of these unique chocolates to present your host at the end of the evening.

Yes, I suppose it would make for a unique gift.

I'm drooling...

I just don't think I can justify spending R189 a month on chocolate, although the longer I look at their site the more I think I can convince myself :D

LOL ... it's what we do all the time - we convince ourselves we need a new oufit, new shoes .... :)

Maybe just do it for a couple of months. You don't have to sign a 24 month contract.

Chocolates and red wine do not mix.

Of course they mix! Especially a dark chocolate and red wine. You just need to pair the right chocolate with the right wine....and to get you started: http://boschendal.blat.co.za/2009/02/13/how-to-pair-wine-and-chocolate/

As for your question, I had this chocolate just the other day which my friend got me in Australia: http://mybroadband.co.za/vb/album.php?albumid=232&pictureid=2539

And what I took from their website: http://mybroadband.co.za/vb/album.php?albumid=232&pictureid=2540

I actually had all 3...very nice! Going to Aus in May, so will get me some more!

I can assure you Red Wine and chocolate do mix - had them myself from The Chocolate Club...They're bloody brilliant. Unique definately but thats whats fun...experiencing new tastes all the time.

I'm sure they are not out to win points on the originality front for their company name. They do exactly what their name suggests. I'm a member and they do a good job of it. I think sign up is free now. i had to pay R129 but they're offering sign up for free - give them a try, i bet you'll stop commenting on a trivial name issue and taste these little devils.
