Hi All,

Quick question, is it possible to automatcially forward SMS's to another number. I've done a call forward from my (now unused) number to another one, but SMS's still get delivered to the original number.

Is it possible, or must I bite the bullet and carry 2 phones around with me?

Thanks

To my knowledge this can not be done. Unless there is a app out there somewhere...but highly doubtfull. Call forwarding is done from the network side and not actually by the phone itself.

You do realise that call-forwarding is not free, right? I've thought of dropping my one phone as well and having all the numbers forwarded to me, but it costs you a call every time somebody phones you and the call is forwarded to your other number.

Yup, I do realise that, thanks, and it's fine, I've factored it in.

@oclreroux: Yes, call forwarding is done by the network, but I remember at some point in the past being able to get onto the MTN (or was I on Vodacom at the time ... I forget) website and keep track of the SMS's I'd sent and received. It was fee driven, and obviously not financially viable, because it didn't last long. The point is if they were able to let me see that information, they should be able to apply the same forwarding mechanism that the do to calls, both being a GSM network driving service.

I susppose it might be possible to implement, but if there is no demand for it, and not a standardized feature that comes with the software that runs the network, then I see no incentive for Vodacom to implement such a feature. You will see on your phone that there is no option to "forward sms"...which means that this is a non standard feature world wide on GSM networks.
